I have been very thankful for the rise of Web 2.0 this weekend, as I am able to participate in London Fashion Week from the comforts of my cosy, albeit rather small room. Here I have picked out a few of my favourite looks/shows so far, from both New York and London. Marc Jacobs' was filled with theatrics, with models sporting oversized furry Bagpuss-esque hats and Louis XVI buckled shoes. Jeremy Scott's show was equally excessive, with hyper-real prints such as Dulux-style colour palettes and Bart Simpson cartoons emblazoned across his designs. In contrast, Alexander Wang's collection championed the designer's signature luxe casuality; models stepped out in sumptuous body-con dresses and knee-high leather boots. Across the Atlantic, Topshop Unique also featured the knee-high, whilst leather and wool were texturally significant throughout the collection. Simple and sophisticated, the designs marked a clear difference between the brand's past playfulness. Simone Rocha's collection featured a number of covetable, wearable items, in which models wore delicate feminine fabrics such as lace with a masculine attitude. The girl inside me was instantly attracted to the CSM MA graduate Estefania Cortes Hawker's shimmering sand-paper-like dresses; the shows designers were all particularly inspiring.
