Mary Katrantzou's flower explosions were a definite favourite for the approaching season, in which the forms were repeated to an excessive degree (shown in my quick little watercolour illustration below);the impetus behind this was to draw parallels between the natural world and the industrial mass production of our society. I was enraptured by the force of christopher kane as per usual for spring. The designer's appliquéd flowers came in a plethora of colours and classifications, anchored to lurex yarn and eerie organza fabrics to echo the 'cutouts in a schoolgirl's scrapbook'. Pool sandals were interestingly kane's choice of footwear;although ugly they were nonetheless apt in augmenting the'nineties minimalism' vibe being addressed. Rodarte also adhered to this flower theme, influenced by van goph's iconic sunflowers. The designers undoubtedly achieved their target of appealing to a wider audience with the collection, however the arresting effects of their earlier work remain the most prolific for me.
